Position Overview:
The Director of Economic and Community Development is responsible for implementing the Chamber and Economic Development Alliance’s strategic plans for business support and growth across Natchitoches Parish. Activities will include but not be limited to the following: coordination and execution, together with community partners, of Natchitoches NEXT comprehensive master plan and NEDA Economic Development strategic plan, creation and execution of economic development and redevelopment programs, creation and execution of workforce development programs, building and site development, targeted marketing, lead development, project management, and investor relations for the organization. Candidate should demonstrate a technical and analytical aptitude, strong attention to detail, and superior communication skills. This full-time in-person position will report directly to the Chamber president.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with public and private partners throughout the parish

  • Working closely with regional and state Economic Development Organizations (EDOs) to improve community competitiveness, enhance marketing efforts, and secure high-wage, high-demand job opportunities for the region

  • Managing the business retention and expansion program, meeting regularly with existing business and industry to identify potential opportunities for support services or expansion

  • Overseeing the cultivation of a site and building portfolio strategy with the goal of strengthening and increasing the database of available sites and buildings, and marketing the portfolio to business prospects

  • Planning and executing workforce development programs, initiatives, and events

  • Coordinating efforts to increase home ownership rates and financial literacy in the region

  • Reporting on strategic planning metrics to the President and NEDA membership

  • Supporting all of the Chamber’s economic and community development efforts and organizational mission

  • All other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Additional professional qualifications or certifications preferred

  • Excellent project management and team management skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in developing reports and presentations

  • Ability to multitask and work under time pressure

  • Excellent organization and planning skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of economic development, redevelopment and reuse, business retention and recruitment programs, marketing and advertising, real estate, development/redevelopment financing alternatives preferred
