Professional Development Programs

LIDEA strongly encourages our members to participate in professional development courses and programs to acheive their economic development certification(s).

The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization serving economic developers.  IEDC offers a certification program that is globally recognized, unifying and setting the standard of excellence for the discipline.  LIDEA is proud to partner with IEDC in supporting the promotion of these professional development and educational events.  To learn more about IEDC's Certified Economic Developer Program, click here.

LIDEA proudly partners with Louisiana Economic Development (LED) to offer a Certified Louisiana Economic Developer program, sponsored by the Southwestern Electric Power Company, USDA, and GNO Inc.  This certification path is designed for Economic Development professionals new to the discipline, Chamber of Commerce staff, elected officials, and local civic leaders interested in learning more about the field of economic development.  This program is taught in New Orleand and Baton Rouge by nationally recognized economic development experts with content tailored specifically to the state of Louisiana.

“From the course materials to the classmates, each part of the CLED process was engaging and educational. The site selection and business retention / expansion courses were two of the most useful in growing our local economy while simultaneously giving me the tools necessary to support our existing businesses. Perhaps the most unexpected benefit of the courses was the ability to learn from my fellow classmates about their specific regional or local situation and what they have done or need to do moving forward. Logistically, the multitude of course offerings throughout the year allows for busy professionals to plan ahead and complete the certification requirements within a reasonable time period considering the political environment most of us work within.”  Buddy Boe, CLED, St. Charles Parish CAO

In addition, LIDEA also proudly partners with our long-time colleague, the Louisiana Municipal Association, on a series of workshops providing technical assistance to municipal government leaders, staff, volunteers, and the local business community to enhance their community and economic development efforts.
